A RIVERS NAME
Dave Dzurek

From it's humble beginnings at Lake
Ostego N.Y., a wondrous flow of water
ventures into PA.  County after county, to
a mile wide at Harrisburg.  She delivers
more water than any other river into the
Atlantic Ocean via the Chesapeake Bay.
No one is quite certain how the name
SUSQUEHANNA came to be.  The suffix
"hanna" is Algonquin for stream or river.
No matter, as the sun rises oe'r her
might-blue of sky reflects off the
ripples, this majestic river meanders the
Heart of the "Folded Appalachians" to
the valley floor.
Swift rapids, hidden Cave-ins, depths as
well as shallows show the rivers beauty
and rage, twisting and turning wildly
four hundred and forty-eight miles.
Great varieties of plants, wildlife
aplenty often flocks to her shores for
their refuge.  Tributaries in multitudes
ebb to make her expanse.
Since time-Ice Age, her body was shaped,
noticed only by a handful of residents
that live by her side, but ALL remember
the FURY.

May her grandeur never cease
it's bounty always supply
and those who steward
one of Mother Natures Waters
show her the respect it deserves.
