Wilkes University Streamside Cleanup 2003
Saturday, August 23, 2003
About 100 Wilkes University Freshman spent this Saturday afternoon removing tires and debris from the banks of Harvey's Creek in Plymouth Township. Rob Krehely of WVSA, helped to coordinate a backhoe and WVSA personnel to load of the tires for ultimate disposal. Ed Brennan of Plymouth Township was enthusiastic and instrumental in the planning and execution of this project. The generous support of the Luzerne Foundation and the Yudichak Family Lighthouse Fund helped to finance the tire disposal costs. Through these combined efforts, 14 tons of tires were hauled to a tire recycling facility and are being processed for various beneficial uses like track bedding and even vehicle mudflaps.
