| RiverFest 2004
Saturday, June 5, 2004
An event to raise environmental awareness, encourage education
and to foster community involvement in the Wyoming Valley Watershed.
RiverFest 2004 had about 130 participants for the paddling adventure. The paddlers landed in Nesbitt Park where The Wyoming Valley Wellness Trails Partnership and Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee created a unique festival that brought together natural displays and activities with health information. Activities along our Wyoming Valley trail system provided the link between health and the environment. The weather was not quite as cooperative in the late afternoon and the hot refreshments offered by Plymouth Township Rec Park and the Nanticoke Historical Society warmed us all! Many thanks to all who helped put together this event - looking forward to 2005!

Streamside Cleanup 2004
Saturday, April 24, 2004
Solomon Creek in Ashley and Toby Creek in Dallas Borough.
The 2004 Streamside Cleanup program was part of a greater effort called the Great PA Cleanup. Throughout the Wyoming Valley a number of groups were active in cleaning waterways, trails and streets. The Coalition work focused on Toby Creek and Solomon Creek, but work on Abraham's Creek and Nanticoke Creek took place that same day. The work of over 100 people removed 300 tires, 2200 pounds of scrap metal, and 4 tons of debris. In addition, volunteers planted 265 trees and seedlings at the Toby Creek site. Both project sites are linked to groups with a vision for the future that considers trails and recreational use of these areas.
